(A Story in the Style of Dr. Seuss)
The builders, they built, but they couldn't build more,
The costs were too high, the regs were a chore!
The permits were slow, the red tape was thick,
And homebuyers cried, “This market’s a trick!”
Then POOF! In a flash, like a hat-wearing cat,
The CFPB vanished! Just like that!
No rules, no fines, no lectures or sneers,
Mortgage folks cheered, “It’s been so many years!”
And oh, what a sight! In a blink, in a flash,
Federal housing employees were dumped in a dash!
Pink slips piled high, a bureaucratic purge,
And the lenders all sang, “We’re free! We can splurge!”
But wait! Oh dear! The rates were still high,
The mortgage folks groaned, “Come on, let’s try!”
So Trump gave a glare, and Trump gave a frown,
And Trump told Jerome, “You bring those rates down!”
But Powell just blinked, and he scratched at his head,
“I thought inflation was the big thing,” he said.
And the people all sighed, “This guy has no clue!
If rates stay up here, we’re totally screwed!”
Then up stepped Bill Pulte, oh what a sight!
“With Fannie and Freddie, I’ll set this thing right!”
“No more the control from the gov’s heavy hand,
We’ll lend, we’ll compete, we’ll build on this land!”
And land, oh the land! So much to be sold!
Uncle Sam had it sitting there gathering mold!
“Sell it to builders!” the Opportunity Zones cried,
“And let’s watch new houses pop up far and wide!”
Meanwhile, in Phoenix, the fans shook their heads,
As Mat Ishbia made their team see red.
Trades and confusion, the chemistry wrecked,
“Worst owner ever!” the fans all checked.
But what’s this? What’s that? A new big deal?
Rocket bought Redfin, it’s honestly real!
“Buy, sell, finance, all under one roof!”
Quicken’s big move was market proof!
And mergers galore, oh my! What a sight!
The big fish were swallowing left and right.
The lenders all changed, the brokers took flight,
And homebuyers hoped for a deal in sight.
So what have we learned from this wild, wacky mess?
We need to build houses, and fix this big stress!
Cut down the costs, chop down the red tape,
And make the dream home a thing we can shape!
So let’s push for change, let’s do what is right,
Or we’ll all be stuck renting in Mom’s house tonight!
